A Word On Cancer Prevention

This project has evolved so much since December of 2008 that it bears little resemblance to our original project to promote the early detection and prevention of cancer.

But, I want to reaffirm to you that my commitment to promoting the early detection and prevention of cancer goes beyond signing off every video with "Check early and check often".

With that in mind, I have made an addition to the A Million High Fives project page that says:

"Kicking Cancer's Butt Across America (Part 2). Remember our anti-cancer PSAs? They will back on Youtube. All of the originals and new user-generated PSAs can be found exclusively on our Youtube channel when #AMHF begins

So, exclusively on Youtube, we will be inviting users to make their own PSAs for the 1 in 8 Foundation to promote early detection and prevention.

And don't worry, Rita Rudner's hilarious PSA that she recorded for us, in addition to the several mayors from across America, will be online again soon.

More on this later, but as we move closer into production, I wanted to let you know I didn't forget where we came from, and we will continue to stress that 90% of cancer, if found early enough, is treatable.

Send Us Your Laptop And Electronics

I would like to invite you to send us your unwanted or old laptops. You may send them to Earth's Temporary Solution, PO BOX 2294, Glens Falls, New York, 12801.

You may also send: Used ink cartridges, cell phones, game systems, digital cameras, and just about anything else electronic that you do not use. Except for game systems*, the rest of the items will be recycled via Toshiba's Trade-In Center, and the profits will be donated to InvisiblePeople.TV and the 1 in 8 Foundation.

*Game systems and games that still operate will be distributed to shelters that house children.

What Are We Going To Do With This Stuff?

Our goal is to provide homeless shelters and other charitable organizations with functional laptops that they can use. The shelter could provide the laptops to people staying there, much like a library lends its patrons a laptop, and charitable organizations short on equipment can use the laptop to alleviate some of their operational needs.

I will also set up laptops to utilize Google Apps (Blogger, Googile Voice, Google Docs, Gmail for example) that these organizations and individuals can utilize to freely communicate with the world (following InvisiblePeople.tv's theme of giving a voice to the voiceless), and for these organizations to improve their web presence to help attract donors and volunteers.

What About My Tax Deduction?

Remember, ETS is not a not-for-profit organization, so we're operating like a conduit. Each laptop we receive will receive a number and go onto a publicly available Google Docs spreadsheet with your name (if you want your name to be used). When we deliver the laptop (or game system), we will identify the charitable organization or shelter that received your donation, so you know where it went and we will provide the office number.

All you have to do is call the number of the shelter that received your item and ask for a receipt.

So Where Do I Send My Stuff?

Earth's Temporary Solution, PO BOX 2294, Glens Falls, New York, 12801

Don't forget to include a $1 (or more) to reserve your spot on the Great Wall Of Twitter. If you donate an item, your card will receive a sticker to let people know you donated.

Remember: If you purchase 250 cards ($250), you can get your name in the credits of our documentary. Click here to purchase your cards.

A Million High Fives Details

The Short Version

A Million High Fives is a live, crowdfunded documentary about helping others through social publishing.

Abbreviated as #AMHF, the project follows the journey of @BJMendelson and his team as they travel America to meet his Twitter followers, volunteer with them at their local shelter, and equip charitable organizations with tools to improve their organization.

All the way, Brandon will be high fiving every Twitter follower in person. You can see all of our tour stops on this handy Google Map here.

The Long Version

Pre-Production:

Crowdfund A Million High Fives:

Purchase 1 (or more) cards to build the Guiness World Record setting "tallest wall made out of business cards". Each card you purchase will feature your name and social networking ID of your choice on the back. Click here to purchase your $1 card.

Send Us Your Laptops (And Other E-Junk)

Send them to Earth's Temporary Solution, PO BOX 2294, Glens Falls, New York, 12801.

While visiting the shelters and charities, we will equip the staff to improve their social publishing presence through Blogger and Google Apps.

You may also send: Used ink cartridges, cell phones, game systems, digital cameras, and just about anything else electronic that you do not use. These items will be recycled via Toshiba's Trade-In Center. Profits from the recycling will be donated to invisiblepeople.tv and the 1 in 8 Foundation.
